GSTS attends Lambeth Careers Fair
Wednesday 09, March 2011
Staff members from HR, Central Specimen Reception (CSR) and Histopathology represented GSTS Pathology at Lambeth Council’s Careers Fair on Thursday 3 March.
Following on from an appearance at a school science careers fair earlier this year, this was GSTS’ second event of this kind in 2011. GSTS Pathology attended along with other local Lambeth employers and recruitment agencies such as the Metropolitan Police, Hays and Waterloo Job Shop, drawing an excellent turn out of over 700 people.
Claire Hay, Donna Coveney, Nymeth Ali, Kevin Feely and Carol Mandimika, were on hand at Lambeth Town Hall in Brixton to talk to hundreds of job seekers with a wide range of differing experiences and qualifications, explaining who we are, what we do, and the different roles available in the business.
Workforce Administrator Carol Mandimika was pleased with the response from the job seekers at the fair: “I spoke to a lot of people who were genuinely interested in the opportunities GSTS offer to take the first steps towards a career in pathology. Many of them did not realise that working in a scientific environment could be a possibility for them.”
Nymeth Ali, a Senior Biomedical Scientist (BMS) and Training Officer in Histopathology added; “I've started my career at GSTS as a Senior BMS and I was able to offer advice and encouragement on starting and progressing your career. It was really interesting to speak to some of the local people that we serve. Hopefully people will have a better understanding of the pathology services we provide and some of them will have been inspired to apply to work with us in the future.”
