The Centre for Haemostasis and Thrombosis provides a comprehensive range of laboratory testing services dedicated to Haemostasis and Thrombosis. Linked to the Haemophilia Reference Centre the laboratories provide testing in both, routine and specialist haemostasis, Nutristasis and Molecular Genetics. Anticoagulation clinics are supported by the laboratory for fast and effective turnaround for patient treatment monitoring.
The diagnostic Haemostasis and Thrombosis Laboratory performs routine coagulation screening tests and specialist haemostasis analysis across both sites of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. The service is dedicated to the detection of abnormalities in the coagulation process and is a reference centre receiving samples from across the region not only providing, routine coagulation screening, including Point of Care (POCT) for warfarin monitoring, but also specialist Diagnostic Haemostasis testing. The recently opened platelet laboratory makes use of some of the most sophisticated equipment to provide a referral centre for patients suffering from platelet defects. The service has the support of some five consultant Haematologists including a Paediatric Consultant.
The Centre for Haemostasis and Thrombosis offers molecular diagnosis and genetic carrier testing through the Molecular Genetics laboratory. In addition to more routine testing such as Facto V Leiden and Prothrombin gene mutation the service provides mutation screening for a wide range of bleeding & thrombotic disorders, including Haemophilia A and B.
To complement its extensive range of investigations in the field of Haemostasis and Thrombosis the Centre also operates the Nutristasis Laboratory which is dedicated to the provision of nutritional information relating to the coagulation process. In addition to Vitamin K all the other fat soluble vitamins are available. Nutristasis also provides information on Homocysteine levels and Methylmalonic Acid and is an international referral site for Warfarin and Super Warfarin levels.
The Centre for Haemostasis and Thrombosis also provides the UKNEQAS scheme for Vitamin K analysis
The Laboratories are certain that Clinical interpretation and advice are an important part of the service that they provide and therefore this is included with results and can additionally provided by the consultant haematologists of the Centre.
All the laboratories are accredited by Clinical Pathology Accreditation (UK) Limited and hold training status from the IBMS .
