
The Blood Science Department of GSTS Pathology comprises three areas of pathology:
The main laboratories are located on the 5th floor of North Wing, St Thomas’ Hospital alongside Central Specimen Reception. There are several Blood Science Rapid Response Laboratories within the hospital e.g. Guy’s Hospital, Accident & Emergency Department. These provide results required for the immediate clinical management of patients.
Blood Transfusion provides a comprehensive blood group serology service as well as delivering the blood transfusion service to the patients at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
Clinical Chemistry is highly automated laboratory and provides general screening profiles for renal, liver, cardiac and other disease groups. Other areas of the service include diabetes, lipids, endocrinology and tumour markers.
Laboratory Haematology provides a comprehensive screening and diagnostic service using a range of state-of-the art technologies and manual laboratory procedures. The laboratory provides FBC investigations, blood cell morphology and associated procedures as well as providing a comprehensive haemoglobinopathy and immunophenotyping service.
